Het natuurgebied Balloërveld wordt beheerd door Staatsbosbeheer en valt onder het Drentsche Aa-gebied, een Natura 2000-gebied. In 1944 is er met de hand een tankgracht en loopgraven door dwangarbeiders uitgegraven. Na de oorlog is het lange tijd (tot 2006) militair oeventerrein geweest.
The Nature Reserve Balloërveld is managed by State Forestry and belongs to the Drentsche Aa-gebied, a Natura 2000 area. In 1944 a tanker and trenches were manually excavated by forced workers. After the war, it has been a long time (until 2006) military scene.
