Description
Deutsch: Die Eisbären von Spitzbergen sind im Frühjahr bemüht, rechtzeitig das nördliche Packeis zu erreichen. Hier sind die Jagdreviere reich an der Lieblingsspeise, den Bartrobben. Wie viele andere Bären auch hat dieser jedoch den Weg über das Eis nicht geschafft und muß den Sommer auf Spitzbergen verbleiben. Viele dieser Tiere sind ausgezehrt und hungern. Der hier abgebildete Bär scheint jedoch noch gut genährt.
English: In spring the polar bears (Ursus maritimus) of Svalbard try to reach the northern pack ice zone in due time before the ice melts around the archipelago. Some do not, however, succeed and need to stay on the islands. Many of them suffer from malnutrition; this one is obviously still in good condition.
