Description
Deutsch: Eissturmvögel Fulmarus glacialis und Dreizehenmöwen Rissa tridactyla sind mitunter Nahrungskonkurrenten auf Spitzbergen. Hier haben Eissturmvögel einen großen Schwarm Jungfische entdeckt und bemühen sich, die Dreizehenmöwen am Tauchen nach der Fischbrut zu hindern. Die Dreizehenmöwen fliegen kreisend über dem Areal und versuchen, mit überraschenden Sturzflügen zu tauchen und Fische zu erjagen. Hier sind vier Dreizehenmöwen aus einiger Höhe herabgestoßen; sofort stürzen sich die Eissurmvögel, im Bild von links und von hinten kommend, auf die Konkurrenten, die - egal, ob mit oder ohne Beute - in Richtung Beobachter und nach rechts fliehen.
English: At times, Northern Fulmars Fulmarus glacialis and Kittiwakes Rissa tridactyla compete for fishing grounds in the fjords of Svalbard. Here four Fulmars swim directly atop a large shoal of small fish and try to protect their fishing ground against Kittiwakes that are flying in the air over their heads and that try to get access to the fish. In the attack shown here, four Kittiwakes shot down from the air, tried to dive and catch the fish. The four Northern fulmars shown coming from the left and from the back immediately darted the Kittiwakes, who - successful or not - fled towards the photographer and to the right.
